Another Mormon Podcast

Episode 22: Why they don’t ask why

On this episode, Richard and Sarah complain a little more about how ex-Mormons are misunderstood, Richard has a brilliant analogy about meeting a recently divorced person at a party, Sarah lets a tiny curse word slip, they talk about how Meet the Mormons shows that Mormons don’t know how they are viewed, and they discuss why church members don’t ask why we left the church.

Good podcast. I agree, most TBMs can’t comprehend why one of their own would ever leave the fold, nor do never-Mormons understand what it’s like to make a decisive break with the LDS church after a lifetime of commitment. You briefly mentioned your assumption that your decision to leave would be discussed in Ward Council. That’s what we thought would happen in our ward as well when we recently submitted a letter of resignation to our bishop. We were surprised to find out that a member of the bishopric announced to all of the adults in our former ward that we had resigned! For us that was worse than not being discussed at all, because it felt like a name and shame campaign.

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this podcast. I have been a non-believer for about 2 years now, but have not figured out how to tell my family, so it is thanks to podcasts like this that I am able to maintain some level of sanity in my life. Thanks again and I think you guys are doing a great job!

Thanks Melissa for your nice comment! That would be so hard to not be able to talk to anyone or not have your family know how you feel. At least I have Richard to vent to! Hugs!
